Panel To Discuss Establishing Supply Chain In China

A panel of experts on China's significant role in global supply chains will gather March 30 at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis to discuss how businesses can benefit from this emerging market.

The esteemed panelists for this day-long event include regional, national and international experts who can speak to China's importance in the global economy. This unique gathering of bright minds will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on March 30 on the fourth floor of the IUPUI Campus Center, 420 University Blvd.

"This event will appeal to people from small or medium-sized businesses who are interested in developing or expanding their operations in China and who wish to better understand the opportunities and risks posed by doing business in China," said Marjorie Lyles, professor of management at the Kelley School of Business Indianapolis and an organizer of the event.

During the last decade, China has emerged as the pre-eminent global supply chain partner, both as a supplier and an end user of products. Despite the worldwide economic downturn, China remains a major player in international commerce.

The U.S. Department of Commerce estimates China increased its trade with the United States by five times from 1995-2005 to more than $285B. American businesses are drawn to China for its cheap labor costs, manufacturing stability and lack of labor unrest, all of which will be discussed during the event.

Planned topics of discussion at the March 30 event include:

  • A Chinese perspective of supply chain issues
  • The current business climate in China
  • How to find a good supply chain partner in China
  • The legal issues surrounding supply chain partner negotiations
  • Managing the operating risk of a Chinese supply chain partner

The event is sponsored by the IU Kelley School of Business Indianapolis and The Confucius Institute of Indianapolis, IU CIBER and the Kelley Global Supply Chain and Innovation Enterprise.

Registration costs $50 and includes a lunch and parking in the Campus Center parking garage. Seating is limited.
